TrueCrypt is a discontinued source-available freeware utility used for on-the-fly encryption. if you’re interested in alternatives to TrueCrypt, VeraCrypt is a great choice. It’s a fork of the original TrueCrypt and continues to be actively developed. Hera are the steps to install VeraCrypt
Why to install Discontinued TrueCrypt?
Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues

Your reasons may vary. It can be for Decrypting old TrueCrypt Containers, Migrating to some new encryption tool or some security reasons. My reasons are to migrate to VeraCrypt (TrueCrypts Successor) as i have very old true encrypted volumes in backup.
Installing TrueCrypt on Ubuntu Linux 24.04
- Download TrueCrypt from SourceForge for your system architecture; it is mostly x64 version on modern computers) (TrueCrypt 7.2 64-bit )
- https://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/OtherPlatforms.html
- Extract the archive and run the script in terminal
./truecrypt-7.2-setup-x64
- Select the option 1. it’ll download and install the TrueCrypt
- Press Enter to see the terms,
- Continue Pressing Enter to read the terms or
q
to skip reading and exit the terms. - Enter
y
oryes
to accept the terms. - This will install TrueCrypt on your system which will be available under all Apps (Super + A)
- To uninstall run the command
truecrypt-uninstall.sh
